Images of the crew gift given to those who worked on Star Wars 9 have surfaced online, giving us some possible clues as to locations we’re set to visit in the upcoming chapter of the Skywalker saga, along with a very weird sounding creature called a ‘Jedi eater’. At the present time, fans are desperate for any official information they can get their hands on, since Lucasfilm and J.J. Abrams are remaining very tight-lipped at the moment. So, for now, we’re left to talk about this crew gift and what it could mean. And it could mean a return to a familiar desert planet, as well this amazing sounding thing being referred to as a “Jedi eater.”
The image in question showed up on Reddit and the gift was apparently given to someone who worked on the movie with the first unit. The gift came with a Bad Robot shirt, a little bottle of sand, a little bottle of beans, and a personalized note from director J.J. Abrams. The note attached to the gift reads as follows.
“Dear cast and crew of Episode IX: There are no words to properly express our gratitude and amazement, your work has been next-level spectacular, and you’ve done it all with kindness and respect. There are no words, but there are jackets!”
The note is signed by J.J. Abrams, Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy, producer Michelle Rejwan and executive producer Callum Greene. For fans, the bits worth focusing on are those little jars included with the crew gift. Starting with the sand, which is apparently “very fine,” it is said to be from “a sacred place on a familiar planet.” We’ve been several sand-covered planets in the history of the Star Wars franchise but sacred could hint at Jedha, the planet we were introduced to in Rogue One that housed the Jedi temple and a great deal of Kyber crystal, the material used to power lightsabers.
Maybe Rey needs to head to Jedha in order to get a Kyber crystal for a new lightsaber since hers was broken at the end of the The Last Jedi? In any case, the description of “sacred” seems to fit Jedha more than it does Tatooine. As for the other jar, it’s filled with beans that, vaguely and mysteriously, have something to do with a “Jedi eater.” Unfortunately, we don’t have anything further to go on with that one for the time being, but that is an intriguing description, to say the least.

What we know for sure is that Star Wars Celebration is scheduled for April in Chicago and, if we don’t learn anything about Star Wars 9 prior to that, we’re sure to get a lot of information at that time. Though, it’s quite likely we’re going to at least get a title reveal prior to that point. Star Wars Episode IX is set to hit theaters on December 20. Be sure to check out the image of the crew gift, which first surfaced over on Reddit, below.
