Who’s the Next Blade? Justice League Actor Wants to Replace Wesley Snipes

There has been a lot of talk lately about Marvel possibly getting their act together and giving us another Blade movie. But even if this ever comes to fruition, there is sadly no way to guarantee that Wesley Snipes will be invited back to the role he made iconic on the big screen. And speaking of possibly having to replace Snipes as Blade one of these days, today we have word via the actor himself that none other than Justice League star Ray Fischer wants to play the Daywalker should Marvel ever actually get around to rebooting the character.

I don’t know about you, but I think Ray Fisher is a solid choice to play Blade. After all, I think it’s pretty safe to say that Fischer’s run as Cyborg in the DC Universe has reached its end. But who knows? Maybe that planned Cyborg stand-alone spin-off movie will see the light of day one of these days. Until we hear more on that though, I’d say Fischer should be included in the list of actors to take over the role from Wesley Snipes, no problem.

Ray Fisher is of course only one of the few actors whose names have been mentioned in association with possibly taking over the role of Blade should Marvel decide to recast Snipes. Other names that have been thrown into the pot lately have been Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Avengers: Endgame star Anthony Mackie and Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Star Wars: The Last Jedi star John Boyega. Other actors that I’d personally like to see in the running include Get Out and Black Panther star Daniel Kaluuya, Aquaman and Black Mirror: Striking Vipers star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and Death Note and Sorry to Bother You star Lakeith Stanfield. Hell, Marvel could even go the slightly-aged Blade route and snag someone like Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw and Beasts of No Nation star Idris Elba. I’d be down for that!

For those keeping score at home, the last time we saw Blade on the big screen was back in 2004’s Blade: Trinity. That movie, of course, starred Wesley Snipes as Eric Brooks / Blade, and Ryan Reynolds joined him as Hannibal King along with Jessica Biel as Abigail Whistler, the daughter of Kris Kristofferson’s Abraham Whistler. Dominic Purcell gave them all a run for their money as Dracula / Drake, and Parker Posey joined him as Danica Talos, along with Callum Keith Rennie as Asher Talos, Triple H as Jarko Grimwood, Natasha Lyonne as Sommerfield, John Michael Higgins as Dr. Edgar Vance, Patton Oswalt as Hedges, and James Remar as FBI Agent Ray Cumberland.

David S. Goyer directed the third Blade movie from a screenplay he penned himself based on the character created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan. Goyer also produced Blade: Trinity along with Wesley Snipes, Lynn Harris, and Peter Frankfurt. The film featured music by Ramin Djawadi and RZA, cinematography by Gabriel Beristain, and editing by Conrad Smart and Howard E. Smith. New Line Cinema, Marvel Enterprises, Amen Ra Films, Imaginary Forces, and Shawn Danielle Productions Ltd. were the production companies behind the film which was released into a theater near you by New Line Cinema way back on December 8, 2004. The $65 million production only managed to snag $128.9 million worldwide at the box-office. This story comes to us via Super Bro Movies over on Twitter.
