Jon Watts and the cast of Spider-Man: Far from Home are currently out promoting the upcoming sequel. During a recent fan Q&A, Watts was asked whether or not there were any undiscovered Easter Eggs in 2017’s Spider-Man: Homecoming and as it turns out, there is one and it has to do with Howard the Duck. The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of Easter Eggs that nobody has discovered yet, just ask Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn.
The Howard the Duck Easter Egg in Spider-Man: Homecoming is hidden really well. This is a movie MCU fans have seen multiple times and nobody has offered up just exactly where this reference is. Jon Watts admits that it’s hidden extremely well and notes fans might not ever find it at all. He had this to say about the Howard the Duck Easter Egg.
“It’s like almost so obscure that I don’t even know if anyone could ever find it, but there’s a Howard the Duck reference. It’s a very small, small Easter egg hidden in tall grass.”
Now, the hunt is on for the Spider-Man: Homecoming Howard the Duck Easter Egg. When Jon Watts delivered the answer, Jake Gyllenhaal seemed the most shocked out of the whole crew. It’s possible Gyllenhaal watched the first installment numerous times to prepare for Spider-Man: Far From Home and never discovered the hidden reference. With that being said, some clever, eagle-eyed MCU fan is sure to find the reference now that the cat is out of the bag. Just don’t expect any further hints from Jon Watts going forward.
James Gunn has had Guardians of the Galaxy fans going for years with hidden Easter Eggs. The director maintains that there is still one sizable reference nobody has yet to discover. This has not kept MCU fans from trying to guess on social media over the past few years, with each one falling short. Speaking of Gunn, he is the man responsible for introducing Howard the Duck to the MCU, who has now appeared in three MCU movies, including the first two Guardians movies and this year’s blink-and-you-miss-it cameo in Avengers: Endgame. The character is voiced by Seth Green in his first two cameos.
