Trailer for Mindhunter season two takes you back into the minds of madness

Two long years have gone by since Netflix debuted their drama series MINDHUNTER from executive producer and director David Fincher, and now we’re only weeks away from the arrival of the highly-anticipated second season. Netflix has finally debuted the first trailer for the season, and it teases the return of series leads Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany and Anna Torv, as they continue to venture into the minds some of America’s most dangerous individuals, trying to figure out what made them commit such heinous crimes.

The first season found Groff’s Holden Ford and McCallany’s Bill Tench interviewing men like Ed Kemper (Cameron Britton), Richard Speck (Jack Erdie) and Jerry Brudos (Happy Anderson), and in the trailer we can see not only the return of Kemper but also glimpses at Charles Manson (Damon Herriman), David Berkowitz a.k.a. Son of Sam, and even the crimes of Dennis Rader, a.k.a. the BTK killer. This new season looks as tense and insightful as the first, with Britton’s terrific performance as Kemper driving much of the suspense with some eerie voiceover.

It’s also been reported for some time that the season will take place during 1979-1981, a few years after when the first season took place, and will partially revolve around the Atlanta child murders during that time. We even get a glimpse of that side of the story, showing a man following a boy home in his car.

Fincher returns to direct several episodes this season, along with Andrew Dominik (THE ASSASSINATION OF JESSE JAMES) and Carl Franklin (DEVIL IN THE BLUE DRESS).

Having just finished my recap of the first season I’m incredibly excited for the return with season two. This is one of the best shows on television and the first season offered a fascinating and sometimes unsettling dramatization of the FBI’s Behavioral Science Unit’s research into the minds of serial killers (inspired by former special agent John E. Douglas’ memoir). Everything about it was top-notch, especially the writing, acting and direction, and season two promises more of the same among an even more gripping and perhaps terrifying story.

MINDHUNTER season two hits Netflix on August 16.
