Paramount Pictures’ SONIC THE HEDGEHOG is off to the races after collecting $3 million in rings during the Blue Bomber’s Thursday night preview screenings. The film starring the beloved Sega mascot played to 3,150 screens across North America with analysts predicting a $40 million to $45 million domestic take throughout Valentine’s Day weekend.

In SONIC THE HEDGEHOG, a small-town police officer by the name of Tom Wachowski (James Marsden) discovers a small, blue, fast hedgehog who goes into hiding after arriving on Earth. Once word reaches the military about the Blue Blur’s whereabouts, an evil genius known as Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) is called onto the scene. Before long, Sonic (Ben Schwartz) finds himself having to match wits with the tech-savvy lunatic as part of an effort to save his friends as well as his own skin.

So far, reviews for the film have been mostly positive. Even our own Chris Bumbray gave SONIC THE HEDGEHOG a thumbs up, saying the film is “a pretty solid family adventure.” To read Chris’ full review, click here.
