After so many years, the idea of William “Bill” S. Preston Esq. (Alex Winter) and Theodore “Ted” Logan (Keanu Reeves) taking the stage once again seemed like an impossibility, but here we are, mere months away from the release of BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC. Decades after it was prophesied that they would save the universe with the greatest song ever written, Bill and Ted have slid into middle age, but when the fabric of space and time begins tearing around them, the rockin’ duo must seek out the song that will restore balance to the universe.
“We’ve gone from a homework assignment to saving all space and time. We bypassed all those possible traumas in the middle,” director Dean Parisot said while speaking to Empire in their latest issue. “They have an hour and 18 minutes. So they’re in a trouble. And let’s say that they have to travel all over the place to try and figure it out.” Empire also debut a new image (not in the best resolution) from the film, featuring Bill and Ted looking rather dapper.
In addition to Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter, BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC will also feature the return of William Sadler as Death, and the actor recently spoke with ComingSoon about the new film. “It picks up the story 30 years down the road, so it’s not a different film, but rather different elements that are the same,” Sadler said. “But we meet all of these characters after they’ve been off having a life and we sort of pick it up now that they’re middle aged and a lot of stuff has happened to Death, too. Last we saw him he was playing on stage with Bill and Ted and we see what went on in his life. So yeah, I don’t want to spoil it for anybody, but it’s really, really fun. I wasn’t there for a lot of the filming because Death isn’t a man thread throughout the movie, but through the portion that I am there, I just had the best giggle the whole length of playing that character. To get to do it again with Keanu and Alex was just fantastic.“
The official synopsis for BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC:
When we last met Bill and Ted they were time-traveling teenagers trying to pass history class and win the battle of the bands. Once prophesied to save the universe with their rock and roll, middle age and the responsibilities of family have caught up with these two best friends who have not yet fulfilled their destiny. They’ve written thousands of tunes, but they have yet to write a good one, much less the greatest song ever written. With the fabric of time and space tearing around them, a visitor from the future warns our heroes that only their song can save life as we know it. Out of luck and fresh out of inspiration, Bill and Ted set out on a time travel adventure to seek the song that will set their world right and bring harmony in the universe as we know it. Together with the aid of their daughters, a new crop of historical figures, and some sympathetic music legends, Bill and Ted find much, much more than just a song.
BILL & TED FACE THE MUSIC is slated for an August 21, 2020 release.
